Mohamed Basheer has been dubbed “the luckiest man in the world.” He was one of 300 passengers who narrowly escaped after an Emirates flight crash-landed and exploded at Dubai International Airport. The 61-year-old was supposed to end his 36-year career in the United Arab Emirates after retiring as a fleet administrator at a car dealer, but the company extended his service for one more year. Of his survival, Basheer said he believes in God and that everything is in His hands. “It was God’s grace,” he said. One week later, he won $1 million in the Dubai Duty Free Millennium Millionaire lottery with a ticket he purchased on his way to India on vacation. Basheer said each time he travels through Dubai Airport on his way to visit his family in India, he always picks up a lottery ticket. This time, his habit paid off. Asked if he would retire and move back to India now, Basheer said he would honor his commitment to the company to work for one more year. What's he going to do with his new fortune? Soon after he got the information about the win, he called his daughter. "I told her that this money does not belong to us. Whatever I earn through my work is for us. I will work for others' wellness and will do something to help the needy.” Basheer went on to say that some of the money would go to make sure his son’s future is secure. “I’m sure God will be with me in that, too,” he said.
