McDonald’s Fans Shocked at What a McRib is Really Made of

McDonald’s fans were left shocked after discovering what cut of meat the chain uses for its McRib sandwich. The McRib — seasoned boneless pork dipped in tangy BBQ sauce and topped with chopped onions and pickles — makes sporadic and limited time returns to the fast good chain’s menu. It has built up a cult following over the years, but while the meaty treat is made of pork, it’s not actually a rib cut. Instead, it’s actually pork shoulder. The revelation sent social media users into a frenzy, with some comparing it to Spam, while others said they don’t care what it’s made out of because it tastes good. The McRib first debuted in 1982, but was then discontinued in 1985. Since 1989, it was made periodic returns, typically when overall sales are down and McDonald’s wants to lure customers back.
