In 2013, LG Corporation released 100 balloons that contained coupons for a free G2 smartphone and challenged attendees to bring them down any way they saw sit. Unfortunately, customers arrived with a variety of weapons intended to ground the balloons, including BB guns. The crowd went wild and were scrambling over each other mindlessly to get their hands on a coupon. As a result, 20 people were injured, with the South Korean electronics company covering their medical treatment. News footage of the event was intercut with scenes from a recent zombie movie, World War Z, showing hordes of the undead in the midst of chaos. The news outlet dubbed the LG event “World War G.” Needless to say, LG cancelled other planned events over safety concerns.
