Meet the One-Armed Player Lighting Up the World of College Basketball

While some may see having one arm as a massive disadvantage in college basketball, Hansel Emmanuel doesn’t see it that way at all. That’s because the Austin Peay State University basketball player decided to rise to the challenge instead of giving up. The 6’6” 21-year-old first went viral in 2021 for his ferocious dunks. While only having one arm, Emmanuel scores 5 points per game and 6 rebounds, with a staggering 85% field-goal percentage. Due to a childhood accident, Emmanuel had to have his left arm amputated below the shoulder when he was just 6 years old. His father, a basketball star in the Dominican Republic, taught his son all his knows about the sport. Emmanuel’s time in the spotlight is on track to grow in the coming days, as Austin Peay’s biggest challenge of the early season is on Sunday, which could send them to the NCAA Tournament in March. It’s quite an accomplishment for Emmanuel to play against some of the top talent in the country.
