There are certain trends that take a hold of the male population which fly in the face of good taste, and wearing a suit without socks is one of them. Going without socks when wearing dress shoes is obviously more of a statement than going without socks when you’re wearing casual footwear, but still some men are against the idea of going without socks in any situation. They liken wearing shoes without socks to sleeping on a mattress without a sheet. While there’s a generation of men who believe that wearing sandals is the only time men should ever be caught without socks, while the younger generation objects to wearing socks in any situation. Then there are the in-betweeners, who believe that the occasion dictates whether or not going without socks is appropriate. Of course, that brings up a whole other issue……comfort. Well-constructed leather dress shoes can sometimes look good without socks, but due to the leather and construction of the shoe, it’s going to be uncomfortable. That’s where no-show socks come in. Unfortunately, there are shoes that can’t accommodate no-shows because they’re cut lower. In the end, it all boils down to a matter of taste. The older generation will just have to get used to seeing a flash of flesh from the younger generation, and the younger generation will have to learn to tolerate men who make matching their socks to their attire a priority.
