It sounds too good to be true, but it’s possible that in the near future, passengers could travel from London to New York in one hour. A Texas aerospace company called Venus Aerospace is working on a hypersonic plane called Stargazer that will be able to travel more than 5 times the speed of sound and higher than any other aircraft. If cleared for commercial travel, the $33 million jet could complete the 3,459-mile trip from London to New York in around an hour, 3 times as fas as the Concorde and 5 times as fast as NASA’s upcoming plane that’s being dubbed “Son of Concorde” because of it’s ability to fly at 937mph. The engine that will power Stargazer is called the Venus Detonation Ramjet 2000-Pound Thrust Engine — also known as VDR2. The engine can reach speeds of Mach 6 — 6 times the speed of sound — around 4,600mph. According to Venus Aerospace, its upcoming plane will not only be faster but will fly higher — up to 110,000 feet. Just like Concorde passengers almost a quarter of a century ago, Stargazer passengers will be high enough to see the curvature of the earth, normally seen from 50,000 feet.
