This California Restaurant Lets You Eat For Free If You’re Taller Than the Chef

Are you taller than a chef? Well, not just any chef — we’re talking about a really tall chef…….really, really tall. Chef Bernhard Mairinger offers daring folks who hover in the 7-foot range to come and earn a meal on him at his new restaurant, Lustig. Opened in Culver City, Lustig is an ode to Mairinger’s Austrian heritage, with options like braised beef sauerbraten, a croque monsieur and, of course, schnitzel. So just how tall do you have to be to score those dishes for free? Mairinger is an imposing 6’8”, which is 2” taller than the average NBA player. Just to make sure, Lustig has put an official height marker up on one wall, so customers hoping for a free meal will have to stand above the designated line. Should they succeed, diners can expect to be added to the Tall of Fame inside the restaurant. Should you be able to join rarefied air with precious few others, gratis sausage samplers and other snacks await.
