Kara Braniecki, from Michigan, shared photos of her sad-looking, swollen dog Torque after he had been bitten by a rattlesnake while playing in the backyard. Fortunately, the unlucky pooch was rushed to the vet, where he received anti-venom treatment and was released the following day. Kara noted that Torque had made a full recovery and was back playing with his brothers and sisters. Rattlesnake bites can be life-threatening to dogs, as it causes tissue damage and can lead to breathing difficulties. Veterinarians recommend that owners seek immediate medical attention if they suspect their pets have been bitten by snakes. While most pets survive a snake bite, it’s important to act fast. It's also recommended that owners rinse the wound with water to remove some of the venom, as well as alerting the vet ahead of arrival so the staff can make the necessary preparations. If owners can identify the snake that bit their pet, that’s even better, as it allows the vet to streamline treatment.
