California Man Finds He’s Been Paying His Neighbor’s Electric Bill For 15 Years

Ken Wilson, who lives in Vacaville, Calif., has been worried that his electric bill was higher than his neighbors’ bills, which didn’t make sense to him because he's an avid energy-saver. He eventually complained to the local utility company, PG&E, which sent a worker out to investigate. Wilson thought he might have a leak or that there was something wrong with the meter. Instead, PG&E discovered that Wilson’s meter was linked to another unit in his apartment building, not his own. Records suggested that the situation has been going on since at least 2009. However, Wilson said he moved into his apartment in 2006 and suspects he’s been paying the wrong bill from the beginning. For now, Wilson is still paying his neighbor’s bill, as PG&E said it can only be changed in the next billing cycle.
