Food Truck Makes the Best of a Bad Situation

When the 105 Freeway in Hawthorne, Calif., came to a standstill following a collision between a tanker truck and another vehicle, food truck owner Isabel Larios decided to make the best of a bad situation. She stepped outside and opened the compartment of her food truck and began serving breakfast. It was, after all, 6 a.m. It wasn’t long before motorists began exiting their cars and placing their orders for breakfast burritos, eggs, and coffee. By 8 a.m., the eastbound lanes of the 105 Freeway had been reopened and the California Highway Patrol had cleared much of the area around the crash site. Larios said she wasn’t sure exactly how much she made from the pop-up breakfast, but it was better than sitting in her truck and wondering when traffic was going to move. There’s no doubt the stranded motorists agreed with her.
