Always Take a Picture of Your Stove Before You Leave for Vacation

Vacations are meant to be relaxing, but sometimes they can be downright stressful. First, there’s the whirlwind of racing around trying to pack everything and praying you didn’t forget anything. Then, even after you leave, your mind starts running. Did you turn the thermostat down? Is the oven still on? When you know you won’t be home for several days, the consequences of a tiny oversight can be very serious because it will be days before you find out if there was anything to fear. To ease your anxiety, travel experts say: take a picture. Similar to forwarding your work emails to a colleague or leaving your pet in the care of someone you trust, taking a picture of the locked back door, the closed garage door, the unplugged appliance, or the knobs on your stove can give you peace of mind and allow you to be fully present on your much-needed vacation. While you can set yourself up with surveillance cameras, simply taking pictures of areas of concern is much more cost-effective and leaves no room for technological errors.
