Making Sneakers White Again: The Foolproof Method Cleaning Experts Swear By

There’s nothing more bothersome than a pair of white sneakers that look older than they really are. There are a dozen methods out there, purporting to make your dirty sneakers look new again, but few live up to the promise. Now, a professional cleaner has revealed the easiest way to turn dirt-stained sneakers white again, and it takes no time at all. Anita Birges, a professional cleaner from Sydney, Australia, shared her frustration with the stubborn wear stains and scuff marks on her family’s white sneakers. She says that by using 3 household ingredients, you can give your beloved shoes a new lease on life. Just mix ¼ cup dishwashing liquid, ½ cup hydrogen peroxide, and ¼ cup baking soda into a paste and use an old toothbrush to scrub the shoes. Birges said she has tried numerous cleaning hacks over the year and this one is the most effective one she’s seen. She cautions that you must remove the laces before beginning, and be generous with the solution when scrubbing the sneakers, including the tongue. Pop the laces into what’s left of the solution and leave it to soak for a few minutes. Then simply place the shoes and laces into a delicates bag and put them through the washing machine for a 30-minute cycle. Be sure to remove the inner soles, as sometimes they’re dyed and it can run all over the shoe. Birges warns NOT to put the shoes in the dryer or in front of a heater when you’re done, but let them air dry for the best results.
