Sailing Into Retirement: Couple Spends 18 Months on Back-to-Back Cruises Because It’s Cheaper Than a Retirement Home

Marty and Jess Ansen, from Australia, have booked 51 back-to-back cruises, meaning they can vacation and save money on rent at the same time. The couple say they missed being on the water when the COVID pandemic brought the cruising industry to a standstill. Since then, they’ve spent the majority of their time aboard a cruise ship, choosing it above life on dry land. The couple has been aboard the Coral Princess ship since June 2022. They no longer have to worry about shopping for food or doing normal household chores, as food and housekeeping are both included in the cost of the cruise. Even the ship’s hotel manager, Ren van Rooyen, confessed that he’s been onboard the Coral Princess for less time than the Ansens. The couple, who have 8 months left aboard the Coral Princess, are looking at doing another around-the-world trip before disembarking. Then, just a few months after that, they will embark on a year-long cruise, this time aboard the Crown Princess. Who says retirement has to be boring?
