Paris: The City of Love, Lights and……Sparkling Water Fountains?

In Paris, tap water is so passé that the French capital has installed sparkling water drinking fountains. The fontaine pétillante, as they're called locally, were installed to help Parisians stay hydrated. Each fountain is connected to the main water line, with a CO2 carbonator added. The water is kept at exactly 44º F, so the water always has a cool, fresh flavor. These fountains, however, do more than dispense streams of perfectly chilled seltzer — they also have a green incentive. The French consume over 2 billion gallons of bottled water annually, so the city is trying to reduce plastic waste by installing sparkling water fountains.
