Wild Duck Lives With a Knife Stuck In Its Neck

Animal rescuers in Brittany, France, were stunned by a wild duck that seemed to lead a perfectly normal life, despite having a knife stuck in its neck. Nicknamed “Donald the Duck” by members of the Pinocchio et Sauvageons association, the mallard has long attracted the attention of the people of Saint-Nolff in northwestern France. What really stunned those who saw the wild duck was how unaffected it seemed by the wound, swimming alongside other ducks, walking around on its webbed feet, and being able to feed normally. However, animal rescuers worried that the knife could become a serious problem over time, so they decided to remove it. Because Donald was in excellent physical shape, he was extremely difficult to catch. However, after several days of failed attempts, rescuers managed to catch and sedate him. The surgical procedure was a success, and following a period recovery, Donald flew right out of the cage when the door was opened. Rescuers observed the duck for a few weeks after its release and have reported that Donald is doing great and doesn’t seem to have any residual effects. As for how Donald came to get a knife stuck in his neck in the first place, rescuers say it couldn’t have happened by accident because of the location. Someone had to have stabbed the duck in the neck. Local authorities are now trying to find the owner of the knife. Fortunately for Donald, the knife didn’t puncture any vital organs.
