The Longest Sneezing Fit Ever Recorded

For many people who suffer a bout of sneezing, it usually lasts no more than a few minutes. For those with allergies, the sneezing may go on for several weeks, but not continuously. For Donna Griffiths, however, there was no end to her fit of sneezing. The 12-year-old girl from Worcestershire, UK, began sneezing on Jan. 13, 1981, sneezing roughly once a minute. As time went on, it reduced to once every 5 minutes. The only relief Donna had was when she was asleep. The sneezing continued for a whopping 976 days, enough to win her a spot in the Guinness Book of World Records for the lengthiest period of sneezing. It’s estimated that in the first 365 days of the sneezing fit, the young girl sneezed 1,408,320 times. Finally, on Sept. 16, 1983, she experienced her first sneeze-free day.
