The World’s Oldest Male Bodybuilder

Jim Arrington got into bodybuilding when he was just 13 years old, and at 90 years old he holds the Guinness World Record for “oldest active male bodybuilder.” After walking into a drug store in 1946, Arrington spotted muscle magazines and noted the bulky models on the cover. He immediately ordered a 25¢ book by George Jowett, a Canadian strongman, and began doing the exercises detailed in it. After putting on 10 pounds in a few months, Arrington just kept going. He admits that he’s much more frail now and that he has to be careful when training that he doesn’t overdo it. In the past 5 years, he’s had his left bicep break loose, as well as suffering a tear in his right bicep. Arrington, who lives in Venice, Calif., trains at Gold’s Gym and competes in the over-80s competitions, but has been trying to convince organizers to create an over-90s category. He usually exercises 2-3 days a week for about an hour, and it’s a full-body workout.
