The Heat's “Ruff" On Pets, But a New Wearable Fan In Japan Is Helping Hot Dogs Keep Cool

A Tokyo clothing maker has teamed up with vets to create a wearable fan for pets to help them get through the hot summers. The device consists of a small, lightweight, battery-operated fan that’s attached to a mesh outfit and blows air around the animal’s body. It’s the brainchild of Rei Uzawa, president of the maternity clothing maker Sweet Mommy, who said she wanted to end the discomfort her Chihuahua suffered every time he went out for a walk in the heat. The Cool Dog fan is also suitable for cats. Three different styles of jacket are available: the basic, unisex white dress, and two styles of kimono-inspired dresses for female dogs. The jacket is very easy to assemble and will fit most animals, even if they’re wearing a leash. The fans come in sizes from small to 2XL and are currently selling for €69 ($65.98) on the Sweet Mommy website.
