When people attempt suicide, they mostly have one motive in mind. More often than not, however, suicide attempts don't go as planned. It’s estimated that for every successful suicide, there are 33 attempts. In the best-case scenario, the survivors will be given the help and support they need. In the worst cases, the effects can be far-reaching and unexpected. Take, for example, the case of Vera Czermak. In 1972, Vera, who lived in the city of Prague in the Czech Republic, was infuriated when she discovered her husband’s infidelity. In anger, she contemplated both suicide and murder. Eventually, she decided to end her life by jumping off of her third-floor balcony. Fatefully, her husband was standing in the street below the balcony. When Vera jumped, she landed on her husband, who cushioned her fall. Unfortunately, the impact killed Vera’s husband. Vera was transported to the hospital and made a full recovery from her injuries.
