Beware of Frozen Honey

TikTok — home of every crazy trend known to mankind — has come out with another suggestion that may not be the best for you — frozen honey. Participants either freeze honey overnight or blend it with corn syrup or another type of syrup. A single teaspoon of honey contains approximately 63 calories and 17 grams of sugar, but combining it with corn syrup shoots it up to 123 calories and 26 grams of sugar. Unfortunately, social media users aren’t stopping with just one teaspoon. The problem is, eating vast quantities of honey can leave you with less than desirable results, including upset stomach and diarrhea. In addition, your blood sugar will likely spike, followed by an unpleasant crash. Dentists, too, are warning their clients not to let honey stay on their teeth, as that level of sugar can lead to cavities. Also, biting into frozen honey can cause teeth to fracture. The American Heart Association recommends that daily sugar intake be limited to 36 grams for men and 25 grams for women and children between the ages of 2-18, and warns that consuming excess sugar for prolonged periods of time can raise your risk of developing cardiovascular disease. So, eating frozen honey is one social media craze you might want to skip.
