Amazon has raised prices on hundreds of everyday items, from Campbell’s soup to Dove deodorant, despite promising to shield shoppers from tariff-driven inflation. A review of nearly 2,500 products found prices rose on about 1,200 items between January 20 and July 1. In contrast, Walmart lowered its prices on the same items by nearly 2%. Manufacturers of products that went up in price on Amazon said they had not raised their wholesale prices for Amazon. Even U.S.-made products, exempt from tariffs, have become more expensive. Some of the items that have taken the biggest hits include Bounce dryer sheets, which rose by 27%; Dove body wash, which rose by 19%; and Campbell’s Soup, which rose by 30%. Other retailers have found sneaky ways to raise prices without bumping up the sticker price, including slashing rebates, shrinking container sizes, and ending price matching.
