Actor Sherman Hemsley is best remembered for his role as George Jefferson on the CBS sitcom All the the Family and the NBC sitcom The Jeffersons. He died of lung cancer on July 24, 2012 at the age of 74.

1987 - At the age of 91, American mountaineer Hulda Crooks became the oldest woman to complete the 14,505-foot ascent of Mount Fuji in Japan. She died on Nov. 23, 1997 at the age of 101.
Fact of the Day
When the “Seinfeld" finale originally aired on NBC, TV Land paid tribute by not programming any shows opposite it. Instead, they showed an image of a closed office door with a handwritten note that read: "We're TV fans so we're watching the last episode of “Seinfeld." Will return at 10 p.m. Eastern Time, 7 p.m. Pacific Time."
Nature Oddities
The boomslang snake has teeth situated farther back in the mouth than most snakes, requiring them to bite, hold on, and chew the venom into their victims. The venom attacks the victim’s capillaries, causing them to bleed to death.
Food and Drink
Until 2015, French law prohibited bakers in Paris from taking vacations at the same time to avoid a bread shortage. Bakers would meet to decide who would be open in July and who would be open in August.
