Larry Shea, owner of Tom & Marty’s Town House, a bar in Binghamton, NY, recently learned the hard way that you should never bet against the best. Shea confidently bet that Scottie Scheffler would not win The American Express PGA tournament. In fact, he was so confident that he put his digestive tract on the line by saying if he lost the bet he would eat nothing but Wendy’s chili for a month. When Sheffler hoisted the winning trophy, Shea’s fate was sealed. With Shea committed to only eating Wendy’s chili for breakfast, lunch and dinner, the Binghamton community rallied behind him. Although Shea is only half way through his commitment, he says the challenge is both physically and psychologically tormenting. While admitting that Wendy’s chili is good, he was surprised to learn that it’s actually fairly healthy. He said a number of people have asked him whether his new diet is producing a lot of flatulence. “I have a cast-iron digestive system, so it’s no problem,” said Shea. Wendy’s reached out to Shea on social media with some concerns and a lot of support. They provided him with free gift cards, merchandise, and a lot of encouragement as he embarks on this culinary adventure.
