We’re used to food brands blending flavors, but there’s never been a brand that has invented its own fruit species. Dole Food Company — maker of fresh, packaged and frozen fruit products — has done just that. The company announced Colada Royale, a brand new pineapple variety that combines regular pineapple with hints of coconut. It’s essentially a piña colada-flavored pineapple. The company's Research and Development Department began in Honduras over 15 years ago to create the new fruit, hoping to introduce it on the company’s 126th anniversary in 2026. The Colada Royale offers the same health benefits as regular pineapple, including providing anti-inflammation, antioxidants, and improved digestion. A one-cup serving contains 2½ times more vitamin B6 than regular pineapple. The new pineapple variety was introduced in California in late October and will arrive in supermarkets nationwide by the end of the year.
