American Shocked to Discover Common Food Practice in the U.S. is Considered Faux Pas by Brits

Stacey Gaw moved from Oregon to Southampton in England over the summer to be with her British husband. Since relocating across the pond, she has been taking to social media to showcase her experience and all the cultural differences she has discovered. When the 36-year-old tried the popular sandwich shop Greggs, she was slammed for committing what many Brits felt was an injustice to the chain. It turns out that Stacey took the food home, put it on a plate, and heated it up. According to the British, “Greggs has to be eaten from the bag!” While many takeout foods are reheated and consumed later in the U.S., UK residents were quick to tell Stacey that sandwiches must always be eaten fresh and from the bag. Social media lit up with comments, including, “Nobody puts Greggs on a plate!” and “I’ve never seen anyone eat Greggs off a plate…..like ever!” Stacey said moving to the UK has been like being in a whole other world, but noted that the people themselves have been very welcoming. Needless to say, she’ll never eat a Greggs sandwich the same way again.
