The Bund Finance Center in Shanghai consists of rustic hand-carved stone building frames and a distinctive “kinetic facade” that incorporates a moving veil made of rotating stainless steel pipes. This veil, inspired by the fluidity of theater curtains, is slow and occurs daily for a short period, but can be customized based on the building’s events. The facade not only adds an artistic element but also serves a functional purpose, allowing for adaptable spaces and visual effects. The 450,000 square foot development of eight buildings combines premium offices with a boutique hotel, a cultural center, and a wide variety of luxury retail spaces, all arranged around a landscaped public plaza.
