Many people have tried DNA home tests to find out more about their ancestry. They’re interested in whether their ethnic ancestry differs from what they know, whether there are any relatives out there they know nothing about, and whether they’re genetically disposed to any health conditions. Beyond the many benefits have come some very strange stories, and these are among the strangest results to come out of ancestry DNA test.
One of the strangest DNA test results stories is of Taylor Muhl, a woman who had twin daughters. She took a DNA test and discovered the twins weren’t hers. She knew all too well that she had conceived and given birth to them, so it had to be a mistake. In reality, her children had the woman’s sister’s DNA, their aunt. The problem was, the Muhl didn’t have a sister. It turned out that she had absorbed a twin sister in the womb, and it was the sister’s DNA that showed up in her daughters’ tests.
When you think about the difference between family and friends, the statement “blood is thicker than water” comes to mind. However, there are millions of people who have lifelong friends who are, for all intents and purposes, family. For Walter MacFarlane and Alan Robinson, that reality turned out to be rooted in fact. They had each taken DNA tests separately and were told they had a half-brother. Each received a notice, advising them they could meet the other person if they wanted. Both chose to do just that. However, when they showed up to meet their half-sibling, they were shocked to find out it was actually their best friend. Neither could believe that the person who had been their best friend for so long was actually their brother.
