Maci Mugele, a first time mother, was excited to share a clip of her baby Gunner on social media. She posted the photo with the caption: “When you have a 100th percentile, off-the-charts 4-month old.” Social media users were astounded at the baby’s size, with some people gushing over his “chunky rolls” and cute features, while others took aim at 21-year-old Maci for her son’s size, accusing her of “child abuse.” Despite the naysayers, Maci insists that doctors have told her that her baby is healthy and just big for his age. Gunner weighed 8 pounds 1 ounce and measured 19½ inches when he was born on February 19th, but has since shot up to 22 pounds 8 ounces and now measures 2½ feet long. Maci explained that when she had an ultrasound done during her pregnancy, the doctor told her then that the baby was measuring quite large. Gunner is in the 100th percentile for his weight and the 90th percentile for his height. “It made me upset to realize that there are people in this world who feel comfortable saying things about a baby.” One commenter came to Maci’s aid by posting: “He is healthy, that’s all that matters. Yes, he’s a big baby, but if you’re so bored that a baby bothers you, then something is clearly wrong — not with the baby, with you!”
