A bird that was hit by a car is undergoing a rather curious rehabilitation procedure in the UK. A couple found the bird stunned and lying in the road. His feet were curled up and unable to grip due to nerve or ligament damage. The couple transported the bird to Leicestershire Wildlife Hospital, where staff used cardboard, cotton wool, and micropore tape to design a pair of casts to hold his feet steady and allow him to stand while his feet heal. It’s a bit makeshift, but the bird is said to be making good progress and will be released back into the wild once he has fully recovered. “We have used this technique before with other baby birds, but it's usually when they have nutritional deficiencies,” said Amy Blower of the Leicestershire Wildlife Hospital. Other than the issue with his feet, the bird was remarkably uninjured, so they expect him to make a full recovery.
