Derbyshire Police in UK Have Their Fair Share of “It Turned Out to Be” Calls

Derbyshire Police in the UK received several reports of a small dog abandoned by a roadside. The dog, which was said to be tied up, turned out to be a toy reindeer. After discovering concerned drivers were barking up the wrong tree, police said Santa’s helper was just “resting after a test flight.” They joked that they had given the reindeer some stern words about being seen in the middle of November. That’s not the only call that has police laughing. Last month police were called about a “dumped crocodile” by the Trent and Mersey Canal, but the mystery turned out to be a stuffed taxidermy model that was reeled in by a fisherman. While there were no crocodile tears in sight, police joked that the abandoned reptile turned out to be “more fluff than fear.” Earlier this year, the Derbyshire Police received a call about human bones that were found in the Long Eaton area. Police said one of it’s brave officers — who had a bone to pick — found that it was more of a humerus nature. It turns out that the pile of bones weren’t human after all. Instead, it was a toy model of Captain Hook, complete with his trusty pet parrot and a hook for a hand. The toy skeleton was missing an arm and its bottom half. Police say that all the calls they receive are taken seriously, but a few — like these — turn out to be a hilarious mistake.
