Marriott Boss Reveals How to Correctly Pronounce Hotel Chain’s Name

Marriott may be one of the most successful hotel chains in the world, but according to the chairman, most people pronounce its name incorrectly. David Marriott, whose grandfather JW Marriott founded the company in 1927, made the announcement while speaking to a group of Marriott loyalty members at an event in Maryland recently. According to the businessman, who serves as Chairman of the Board for the travel company, it’s pronounced MARRY-it not MARRY-ott. He went on to say that people should think of the name Elliot. “That’s right, it’s not EL-e-ott, it’s EL-e-uht. It’s the same way with Marriott.” Social media exploded with comments, with one user posting, “Too late. I’m not changing the way I say it,” while another said, “For $300 a night, I’m going to say it however I want!”
