Puma is known for its sportswear and collaborations with athletes, while Dolce & Gabbana is a high-fashion brand known for its luxury accessories. One would never expect the two to be considered competition for each other, but in 2018 the two world-famous fashion companies found themselves engaged in a lawsuit over slippers. Puma accused Dolce & Gabbana of copying their “The Fur Life by Rihanna” slipper design with their own mink-fur trimmed sandals. D&G countered that their slippers were significantly more expensive because they were made with real fur and targeted a different, more upscale clientele. The court sided with D&G, ruling that there was no competition between the two products because D&G sold only three pairs, with two purchased by Puma’s test buyers.
