Cat Gets $5,000 Gold Tooth

A mischievous cat with a taste for destroying her owner’s belongings has become an Internet sensation after showcasing her new gold fang. Clarrisse Bosman, from Denver, Colo., says that when her cat Tofu broke her tooth, the vet gave her a real gold grill for $5,000. The 22-year-old said she was out of state visiting her family when she received a call from her fiancĂ©, who was watching the cat, saying Tofu had cracked one of her front teeth in half, leaving the pulp exposed. Upon investigation, he discovered that Tofu most likely split her tooth while chewing on a toy music box made of wood. A quick visit to the vet revealed that there were two options: extract the tooth, or try to save it with a root canal and a hypoallergenic, gold-alloy crown. Bosman said the decision was a no-brainer, since Tofu is still under 3 years old. "There were a lot of practical reasons we chose, but there were concerns about jaw alignment, her diet that requires her to rip and tear food apart, and safety reasons, since we take her outside on supervised walks and hikes. If she, for whatever reason, gets separated from us, we want her to have the best chance possible.” Most of the $5,000 was not for the gold, but for the related costs of the procedure, including blood work to ensure the feline could handle anesthesia, the anesthesia itself, the root canal, professional cleaning, x-rays, other teeth being pulled, and pain medication. Needless to say, there were a lot of comments on social media. One user commented, “That’s so cute, because when she passes you can keep it and turn it into a piece of jewelry.” Another commenter said, “As a vet tech…….this is rich people's veterinary medicine.”
