Imagine it’s lunchtime and you’re craving a Big Mac. You head to the McDonald’s in Franconia, Va., and that’s when you notice the doorbell and a sign asking you to ring before entering. It’s all part of a new policy at that location, requiring inside diners to be at least 21 years old. Meanwhile, the McDonald’s down the street from a local high school in the area has workers trying to corral out-of-control young people who are standing on tables, cursing and fighting. Managers at the McDonald’s in Franconia say that’s precisely why they put the age requirement in place. Customers over the age of 21 can still enjoy their Big Macs inside the location, but may be asked to provide ID. The 21+ policy is in effect Monday through Friday. Parents with kids are still allowed in, and adult chaperones are allowed to be joined by up to four children.
