Positioning Ourselves to Hear From God
“Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.” — Psalm 119:105
There are times in our walk with God when we are so finely tuned in that we can almost hear His whisper. Then, there are seasons in life when all is quiet and we’re left wondering if He has abandoned us. The important thing to remember is that God never leaves us, even during the silent times. Maybe we’re in a busy time in our lives when we aren’t spending enough time reading His Word and being in His presence. We must fix our eyes on God, which may even mean adjusting our daily lives. If you find your eyes glazing over every time you pick up the Bible to read, try a different translation…..mix it up a little bit. Carve out a space to hear from God clearly. That means finding a quiet space in your house where you can have a few uninterrupted moments before the demands of the day begin. If you can sit outside in nature, that’s even better. The important thing to remember is to use idle moments to commune with God. Maybe you’re waiting 10 minutes in the school pick-up line, waiting for your kids. Use that time to talk to God. We can practice the presence of the Lord throughout the day, regardless of how busy our schedules may be. Wherever we are, God will meet us there.
