The Veyron is a mid-engine sports car designed and developed in Germany by Volkswagen and manufactured in France by French automobile manufacturer Bugatti. The original version has a top speed of 253mph and is considered one of the fastest street-legal production cars in the world. The Bugatti Veyron features an 8-liter, quad-turbocharged, W16 cylinder engine. It can be driven in either semi-automatic or fully-automatic mode. It uses special Michelin PAX run-flat tires, designed specifically to accommodate the Veyron’s top speed and cost around $25,000 a set. The tires can only be mounted on the wheels in France, a service that costs $70,000. What’s unique about the Veyron is that it has uninterrupted acceleration from a standing start to maximum speed, a feeling previously only known to jet pilots. The Veyron is so fast that the time it takes to empty the 26-gallon fuel tank at top speed is a mere 12 minutes. Of course, when running at full speed, the car only gets 2mpg, but when you’re shelling out anywhere from $1.7 to $3 million dollars for a car, who cares about the cost of gasoline?
