Things About Marlon Brando That May Surprise You

It’s common to associate Marlon Brando with The Godfather series of movies, even though he had already appeared in 25 movies over a period of 22 years before it was made. What people may not know is that Brando rarely followed a script or remembered all his lines. He liked to get to know a character and improvise, which caused problems with some scriptwriters and directors he worked with. As for his performance in The Godfather, Brando didn’t understand the fuss about it and thought his performances in other movies were much better. He disliked the Hollywood lifestyle and did everything he could to avoid becoming a stereotype. In fact, he lived in a cheap apartment long after becoming a star. In the 1950s and 1960s, Brando turned to crash dieting quite often, but eventually got to the point where he didn’t care anymore. Even before his infamous weight gain, Marlon’s eating habits were out of control. His second wife even had to put a lock on the refrigerator to keep him from pilfering at night. Finally, Marlon Brando’s signature was so valuable to collectors that many personal checks he wrote were never cashed because his signature was worth more than the amount on the check. Some of those checks are still floating around today.
