Chubby Chihuahua Gets New Lease On Life From New Owner

Shorty, an 11-year-old Chihuahua from Oklahoma, used to tip the scales at a whopping 18 pounds. Then cardiology technician Carlie Cahill spotted Shorty at a pet store’s adoption event and knew she had to have him. After adopting Shorty, Carlie took the lethargic pooch to the vet for an initial checkup, where she was told he was suffering from a thyroid condition that was contributing to his weight. Carlie introduced Shorty to a low-calorie, high-protein dog food and lots of green beans. Within months, Shorty dropped 11 pounds. Now, Shorty weighs in at a health 7 pounds and is finally able to go for walks and play with Carlie’s other dog, an energetic 4-year-old Staffordshire terrier called Toad. “Hopefully, Shorty’s story can inspire other owners to help their dogs lose a bit of weight and live to their full potential,” said Carlie.
