Applebee's Is Testing Out Their First Drive-Thru Window

The restaurant industry has been one of the hardest hit during the pandemic, and restaurateurs have been forced to rethink their business models. For Applebee’s, that means testing out a new drive-thru window. A franchise operator of the fast-casual restaurant in Texarkana, Tex., has plans to install a drive-thru pick-up window — a first for the chain. The test of the drive-thru at this location will determine whether future stores will be build with the drive-thru design. Customers at the test location can order online or via mobile app, and then pay online and pick up their order at the drive-thru window. Patrons will be given an estimated pick-up time once the order is placed. The test window is expected to open in the next few weeks. Unlike many other chains, Applebee’s sales have climbed throughout the pandemic — mainly due to the popularity of its to-go and delivery services, which account for 60% of its revenue in the last two quarters of 2020.
