How One Bad Decision Ruined Jennifer Grey's Career

In the 1980s, the world couldn’t get enough of Jennifer Grey after she starred in Dirty Dancing and Ferris Bueller’s Day Off. Not long after that, she disappeared. One of the memorable things about Grey was her nose, but she didn’t much like it and decided to have plastic surgery to “normalize” it. As she put it, “I went into the operating room a celebrity and came out anonymous.” She became so unrecognizable that she lost all star power and found it difficult to land parts. She even described her life as being similar to being in the witness protection program, practically invisible. Considering a noticeable physical change and a lack of work, Jennifer at one time considered the option of changing her name to start her career again, but eventually abandoned that plan. Before losing her popularity and affection to Hollywood producers, Jennifer decided to withdraw from the film industry briefly. Today, she makes occasional appearances on television shows and appears to be okay with that. She has been married to actor and director Clark Gregg since July 2001 and they have one daughter, Stella.
