The Majority of Plane Crashes Occur At These Times

Accidents are simply a part of life, and while uncommon, it's true that they can occur even while flying. Statistically speaking, air travel is perhaps the safest way to travel — you have only a 1, in 9,821 chance of dying in an airplane accident. According to a new in-depth analysis by Boeing, if an accident does occur, it's far more likely to happen during certain parts of a flight than others. Close to 80% of all plane crashes occur in either the first three minutes after takeoff or during the last eight minutes before landing. In between those times, the chances of a plane crash occurring drop dramatically. If you want to up your chances of survival, you need to be extra vigilant and ready to take action during those times. The best way to do that is to make a plan of action prior to your flight, determining what action you will take if a crash is imminent. Experts say there are things you can to do prepare, including not sleeping during prior to take-off and landing; make sure your shoes are on and secured, and don't wear high heels; don't drink before getting on a plane so you can be alert; make sure your seat belt is securely fastened, low and tight; and make sure you get familiar with your action plan.
