Marty McFly’s “Back to the Future” Guitar Goof

In the 1985 film Back to the Future, 1980s teen Marty McFly — played by Michael J. Fox — fills in on the guitar at the high school dance. As we all know by now, he blows the minds of the 1950s-era kids and musicians in attendance by incorporating power chords, feedback, and tapping into “Johnny B. Goode.” While it’s true that the kids of that day weren’t ready for that style of music, what wasn’t true about the scene was the guitar McFly was playing. He was playing a Gibson ES-345, but there’s just one little problem: It wasn’t around until 1958. Apparently, on the way back to 1955 from 1985, McFly made a pit stop in 1958 to pick up the guitar.
