Inside The Richest Zip Code In America

With an average income of $2.2 million, Fishers Island — a 7-minute ferry ride from Miami Beach — is the richest zip code in America. Celebrities like Mel Brooks, Julia Roberts, Andre Agassi and Sharon Gless all have homes there. The only way to get to the island is by Fishers Ferry or private yacht, and only the island’s 800 families and their guests are allowed on the island. The private island enclave sits on 216 acres, and while you might see Bentleys, Lamborghinis, Porsches and Ferraris in the driveways, you won't see them zipping around the island. With strict speed limits, most people navigate the island in golf carts. The median waterfront home on the island costs $2.9 million, and residents have to pay a hefty membership fee as well. That covers the unlimited use of community pools, the 17 tennis courts, and the private beaches with sand imported from the Bahamas, but not the golf course or the marinas. Half of the residents of the island are over 60, and it even has a billionaire or two. Fishers Island is one of the few places where quarantining because of COVID-19 is welcomed.
