1,200 People a Year Die Over Sneakers

A sneaker head is someone who is so obsessed with sneakers that they're willing to forgo their rent to say they own a shoe that they'll never wear. That’s why it’s not hard to believe that 1,200 people a year die over sneakers, namely the highly coveted Air Jordans. What’s even more insane than that is the fact the the shoes are marketed in a way designed to create willingness to do anything to get a pair. In 2011, when new Air Jordan sneakers were released, fights, vandalism and arrests were prevalent. A shopping rush on stores across the country led to unrest that nearly turned into rioting — over a pair of sneakers. Imagine having a pair of shoes that cost you a fortune, but you can’t wear them for fear of being attacked and having them stolen. At the end of the day, they’re just shoes and they're not worth risking your life over.
