Wedding Invitation Causes a Ruckus On Social Media

The COVID-19 pandemic is changing the landscape of weddings, and while some people are postponing their celebrations, others are doing what they can to get married as soon as possible. When New Yorker Marie von Aue posted on social media a photo of an unusual notice that came with a wedding invitation, little did she know it would start a firestorm of discussion. The notice advised guests that they would be divided into three groups, based on how close to the happy couple they are. While those in Group A get preferential treatment and should RSVP quickly, those in Groups B and C should keep an eye out to see if there are any openings at the wedding — just in case someone cancels. Oh, and two other things: Leave your kids at home, and you single people, don’t bring a plus one. Some social media users were appalled by the invitation, while others thought it was a solution to a problem created by the pandemic.
