The Only Person To Ever Get a Good Housekeeping Seal of Approval

When the first Good Housekeeping Seal was issued in 1909, the developers never could have imagined the slate of products that would carry it more than 100 years later, from cordless vacuums and makeup remover to blue-light filtering lenses and high-tech dishwashers. What may surprise you is that there’s actually a person who carries the seal. In 2001, Dolly Parton became the only person to ever earn the Good Housekeeping Seal of Approval. She was awarded the honor for the work she was doing — and continues to do — donating books to children through her Imagination Library. After launching in 1995, the program grew quickly, and by 2003 the library had mailed one million books to children around the world. In addition to the Good Housekeeping Seal of Approval, Dolly has also received the Best Practices award from the Library of Congress.
