7½-Foot-Long Mushroom Canoe Earns Guinness World Record

A Nebraska duo who created a 7½-foot-long mushroom canoe has received a Guinness World Record for their efforts. Katy Ayers and William “Ash” Gordon, owner of Nebraska Mushroom LLC, said they grew the “Myconoe” using fungus, creating the world’s longest fungal mycelium boat. The vessel sprouts new mushrooms every time Ayers takes it onto the water. Gordon said the project was a means of putting his passion for mushroom research into practice. Ayers said she is continuing to study mycology — the study of fungi — at Washington State University.
