The 8-Year-Old Girl Who Has No Pain, No Hunger and Needs No Sleep

A chromosome is a complex network of proteins and DNA, and we humans have 46 of them. In the case of 8-year-old Olivia Farnsworth, she is the first unique case of chromosome 6p deletion. Her story came to light when she was hit by a car and injured badly. Since then, she has not felt pain nor has she cried. Doctors named her as the first “Bionic girl” for her superhuman capability. Once her condition was diagnosed, her mother admitted that she never feels danger, pain, hunger, nor the need for sleep. Though more than 100 cases like Olivia's are reported, she is the only person in the world who has all three phenotypes of “no pain, no sleep and no hunger.” Olivia’s condition is lethal, as she needs to avoid dangerous circumstances at all times. She is also taking sleeping pills in order to help her sleep six hours a day.
