Why You Should Never Brush Your Teeth Immediately After Vomiting

There are many reasons why we may find it necessary — or inevitable — to throw up, and many people are so grossed out that they run for their toothbrush afterwards. While your first reaction may be to brush away the effects, you should actually avoid brushing your teeth immediately. That’s because when you vomit, the acids in your stomach can make their way to your mouth. Those acids are actually harder on your teeth and mouth than most others. Brushing your teeth doesn’t brush those acids away; on the contrary, it actually spreads them around. Instead, add one teaspoon of baking soda to some water, swish the water around in your mouth, and spit it out. The baking soda and water will wash away the acids and keep your teeth better protected. You can still brush your teeth, but just make sure you wait at least 30 minutes after throwing up.
