Doctor Reveals Why You Should Be Sleeping With Socks On Every Night

Sleeping with socks on could be the key to a better night’s sleep, says Dr. Jessica Andrade. That’s because socks warm the feet, causing blood vessels to open, which in turn cools the body down. A drop in core body temperature tells the body that it’s time to sleep. When body temperature lowers, the body begins to produce melatonin — known as the sleep hormone — which makes you feel relaxed and naturally drowsy. However, it’s important to remember that the choice of whether to wear socks to bed or not is yours to make. There are people who say wearing socks to bed is uncomfortable and others who say it overheats them, and those are the people who should follow their body’s lead. That’s because if you’re uncomfortable or too warm, sleep is going to allude you. So, when it comes to sleeping with or without socks, experts agree: do what works best for you.
